MOTHERTHON
MOTHERTHON-2016 an initiative to bring awareness on saving a girl child. Motherthon-2016
is dedicated to mothers of today, a reminder for everyone "Every Mother is
a Girl at Birth". The Marathon was Flagged off by Hon'ble Deputy Chief
Minister of Telangana State Mohammad Mahmood Ali, Many Celebirities,
Politico's, Senior Police Officers & Bureaucrats made their presence felt
at Motherthon-2016, as most of them jogged, ran & walked the marathon. Many
Citizens of Twin Cities from various
walks of life took part in Motherthon-2016. The Voice was common among every
particpant-Save the Girl Child because every Mother is a Girl at Birth.
Speaking
on the occasion Mrs. Nafisa Ismail from Marg Foundation said "
It is said that God created mothers because he cannot be present everywhere.
But it is sad to realize that the representatives of Gods are being killed
continuously even before they come out into the world.
Most of the social evils in India are
against women. But, India as a country has overcome many social evils like
Sati, Devadasi system, child marriages, etc. Though they exist even today, but
in tiny pockets. Same is not the case with female feticide. This is still
rampant and the sex ratio of 2011 census is a clear reflection of it.
A parent does
not wish to harm their own children. Female feticide is an act of desperation. Things
that lead to this desperation are
· Dowry system
· Poverty
· Mentality.
Where males
are considered better than women and women are considered sub- servant. This
leads to obsession for a son.
· Girls are considered as financial obligation.
Female
feticide leads to decrease in female population, adverse effect on women
health physically, mentally and emotionally. This paves a way to abuse and
sexually exploit women, which is the main reason for high suicide rates amongst
women.
Moreover due to advancement in
technology, female feticide has increased by 49.2%.This is mainly because of
poor implementation of laws such as PNDT act, medical termination of pregnancy
act, Dowry prohibition act.
The motive of
this campaign is to spread awareness about the same and get the society
involved in this process.
Marg
foundation has always stood for the women’s causes and has many
initiatives for women like skill training, providing employment to women, saving
women from the social evils, counseling and empowering them.
Marg foundation with the help of people
and media/press would continue to stand against such evils and work for their
empowerment.

are supported through different remedies . Supermom is an initiative to empower,
mentor and groom an underprivileged and an orphan girl child. Anyone who takes
responsibility of one particular child and gives the above things
unconditionally is a Supermom.
